About this module:

• What you'll learn? There's broadly only two types of communication that happen in the workplace - conveyance and convergence. In this module we discuss what conveyance and convergence are, and when you'll see each type of communication in the workplace.
• Why it matters? Understanding the difference between conveyance and convergence is the foundation for highly effective workplace communication, and we'll touch on these two different types of communication again and again throughout these training modules.

Make it practical - Questions and exercises you can try with your team:

1. List 3 tasks regularly completed by you (or your team) that are primarily convergence?
2. List 3 tasks regularly completed by you (or your team) that are primarily conveyance?
3. On a daily basis, what percentage of your communications tasks are conveyance? convergence?
4. Are there any parts of your job where you're required to frequently switch between conveyance and convergence? These are the danger areas where it's easy for communication to break down. What triggers might you be able to put in place to force you to quickly think about the purpose of your communication?
